Helping Those in Need
New Beginnings offers vouchers to people in great need who can exchange volunteer hours for needed items like clothing and furniture. This is because we operate 2 thrift stores in Orange and Lake Counties to help generate funding for our homeless outreach and poverty prevention ministry.
Helping people in need is at the heart of our thrift store program.
Outreach coordinators interview those who have expressed a need and write a voucher for items, based on each situation. These vouchers can be written at any of our 3 social services centers and also available at our Saturday outreaches.
Many in need do not want charity — they want to earn everything they get. The voucher program is a hand-up, not a hand-out. We have found that if people work for the items, they appreciate them more. They are able to maintain dignity.
Of course, there are times when volunteering is not an option, and so the coordinator takes that into consideration. New Beginnings has been blessed to be a blessing. We don’t want to do for someone what they can do for themselves, but sometimes, our neighbors just need help in an urgent time. Sometimes, they have nothing to give in exchange — not even time.
Please consider donating your gently used items to our thrift stores and equip us to help the homeless in Central Florida.
