At our Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast, we celebrated more than 28,000 volunteer hours served by you. That would be like us hiring 13 full-time employees and one part time employee.
Using the state-set value of one volunteer hour, that means you collectively invested $670,000 in our fight against poverty and homelessness. That’s more than half a million dollars!
Likely, you feel that what you do is just a small part. I know this, because many of you didn’t think you should be honored at the Volunteer Breakfast. You said, “I only do a small part.”
New Beginnings is like a puzzle, made up of lots and lots of individual parts. Every piece of this community works together, piece by piece, to make one beautiful picture of transformation. Individually we are unique, but together we are complete.
I am so grateful to each and every one of you for sharing your individual talents with us. For 11 years, you — passionate, selfless volunteers — have empowered our neighbors in need to live independent lives.
Every time we take someone on a tour of our ministry, we almost always hear the same thing: “I had no idea how big your ministry was! I didn’t know New Beginnings did all that!”
All that is represented in the abundant and generous hours served by you. I think you can also catch a glimpse of “all that” here on our website.
Serving is not easy. Sometimes, we can feel hopeless beneath the long shadow of poverty and homelessness, can’t we? I assure you, your investment of hours and skills provides an answer. We do this work together, so that those most in need can discover hope.
As we rally together, motivated to empower our neighbors in need, we get to watch those in need eventually become part of the solution, rather than remaining trapped beneath the problem.
That is the heart of New Beginnings. You are the heart of New Beginnings. Thank you for choosing to change lives with us.
