Thank you to the United Way of Lake & Sumter Counties for a generous grant of $7,150.00 to New Beginnings in January 2019.
The United Way tries to ensure that the organizations cater to the “ALICE” — an acronym for asset limited, income constrained, yet employed — population. That group consists of people who are working, but due to child care costs, transportation challenges, high cost of living and more, are living paycheck to paycheck.
“That’s the new term for working poor,” McNulty said. “When we award these grants, we make sure the programs will be opened up for those ALICE individuals or families to make sure they are not falling through the cracks.”
