We commissioned Emma, a 16-year-old artist, to paint something to represent New Beginnings’ work. Here’s the story behind her 2019 painting (and how it connects to last year’s painting).
“New Beginnings, to me, is a much needed program in our community that reaches out to those in need with the love of Jesus Christ. I’m thankful for the opportunity to use my artistic ability to support the efforts of New Beginnings.

The phrase “What’s Your Impact?” is what inspired the subject of this painting. I think that is a question everyone should ask of themselves.
For this image, I used my favorite paint medium, watercolors.
I want people to know that my artwork is more than just a picture, it’s a story. For example, the person kneeling down is lending a hand up, rather than a hand-out.
I see this year’s image relating to last year’s by being the next step.
Last year’s piece (below) was about recognition, whereas this year’s takes it one step further, to reaching out. It’s reflecting the need for personal connection in order to instill hope.“
