Linda wanted to work at New Beginnings once she graduated because staff members poured into her as a resident in the program. She wanted to give back.
Homelessness can happen to anyone. I had no idea it would ever be me. I was at an all-time low, praying to God every night, asking Him to take me.
Does that idea strike you wrong? Jesus was born homeless. Sometimes, holy work happens in the dirt. And right there, in the lowest place, we discover God with us.
Poverty and homelessness can feel overwhelming, unless we face it together. When we face the problem together, we can change a life.
At 56 years old, I had nowhere to go. I was a scared, sad woman in a hospital bed, detoxing off of alcohol. Then I enrolled in a program that saved my life.

At first, Diane Speranza was afraid to volunteer as a mentor for a New Beginnings resident. Sure, she’d volunteered for 3 years in the thrift store, but she wasn’t sure she had what it takes to mentor someone.
This brave woman buried her husband, later suffered terrible domestic violence and was diagnosed with colon cancer. At New Beginnings, she has a home for her daughters and has stopped worrying whether or not they will eat each day.
